about our founder
Maureen Johnson is the founder and C.E.O. of Legacy Travel & Tours, LLC., founded in 2014.
My very first travel experience was taking a flight in a twin-engine plane with my father, flying over Long Island when I was about 5 years old. We took drives along the beautiful Hudson River in New York, witnessing the majestic mountains on our way to the Catskills to visit our Friends' dairy farm. The frequent rides to Jones Beach on Long Island at sunset would have me wondering, "Who is out there on the other side of this ocean?". The rides on the Subway into Manhattan, and on the Staten Island Ferry to visit family members were always an adventure. One of my most impressionable experiences was when I went on a class trip to JFK. Entering the hangar, I found myself in awe, gazing at those huge aircraft parked.
I grew up 30 minutes from and on the flight path of J.F.K. in New York. The planes flew low enough for us to read the names on the aircraft. The Concord, a luxury, high-speed aircraft, with service between New York and London, would fly over several times a week. It was fascinating and sometimes annoying. It was so loud and powerful, that we could hear it before it approached, and items in the house would vibrate.
I absolutely love traveling and experiencing the world, and it is exhilarating to help others to do the same! I believe that travel is the university of the world. I have traveled to Africa, The Bahamas, The Caribbean, Bermuda, Egypt, England, Ghana, Hawaii, Kenya, Paris, Rome, Mexico, and The Gambia.
I recently had the honor of becoming a "Caregiver" for a loved one. Many Caregivers do not realize the importance of incorporating self-care into their lives. If you don't take care of yourself, you won't be able to care for others. A Wellness trip may be just what you need. Hence, I am currently completing my Wellness Tourism Certification course. And I am a certified Business Travel Specialist.
